As a blogger, confidence is a trait that you MUST have. It takes a lot of guts to go against the norm. We don’t like to be judged negatively by others and the norm is the safe road because it’s already acceptable. Before I even dive into this topic, let me define just what confidence is to me. Confidence to me is just being certain of my abilities. Basically, I believe in myself and I believe that I can do anything as long as I want to achieve it. Sounds so simple, right? Then why do we all battle with lack of confidence?
I’m not going to lie to you and say that I am confident all the time as a blogger. I mean, I’m putting my whole self out into the open. Throughout my journey, there have definitely been extremely hard times to maintain my confidence. The first thing I do whenever I feel that my confidence is at an all time low is figure out WHY my confidence is so low.
In the beginning, I was TERRIFIED of what people would think. Are they laughing at me? How many group messages am I in? What are they saying about me? What do THEY THINK OF ME? I literally had to slap myself in the face and say since WHEN do you let what other people think affect you? Are they paying your bills? Are they making you happy? Do they have any part of your life? NO. Then screw them. They don’t matter. You have got to let go of what other people think.
Once I got better with this, I was able to be more vulnerable, more myself on stories, which allowed for me to gain a more connected audience. Then, I was able to go in public with my tripod which gave me the freedom to take my content myself instead of waiting on someone to come with me. LOL if you thought I would do this when I first started blogging, LACK OF SELF CONFIDENCE WAS REAL THEN, not a chance in hell.
Tripod hack: I usually take my pictures on weekends. I tend to find businesses that are closed and used those areas since they’re not too populated, but every now and again I get a wild wind and go right where everyone is, because I am confident AF (sometimes)
You can’t go into something such a blogging and think that criticism and judgement aren’t going to follow. It’s almost naive. People are going to make you question your confidence and you have to figure out BEFORE hand how you’re going to handle it.
My biggest trouble was dealing with people where I’m from. They like to run their mouth and for a while, I let it eat at me. I cried a little bit, I thought about quitting, but if I would’ve, I wouldn’t have ever met Sarah, Hannah, or Katie. I wouldn’t have ever gotten to experience events or public speaking. I wouldn’t have gained business qualities. There was so much more that I was able to GAIN from continuing on. Now, that trouble that almost took everything away from me is almost laughable.
Steps To Build Your Confidence:
First, I want you to define what is making you lack the confidence. Then, write down steps to overcome that block in the road. My fuel is passion for what I do. I want to be a successful blogger and I want to help people with their lives through my creative outlet. Therefore if people’s opinions are making me lack confidence and you need confidence to be successful, I have to eliminate the opinions of others.
Having a commitment to what you do will give you confidence. I am committed to my blog, I make time for it, I set goals for it. Write down your goals, when you achieve one, you’re going to feel good and you’re going to have a little bit more confidence going into the next one.
Other people’s success can ONLY be your inspiration and motivation because the second it becomes your competition, you have lost. Remember that social media is only someone’s highlight reel and you do not know what they are battling. Don’t sit around and compare yourself because you’re only hurting YOUR confidence, no one else’s.
Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, and your words become your actions. A habit of ALL successful people is expecting that they’ll be successful. Believe in yourself (HEY CONFIDENCE) AND YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IF YOU DON’T GIVE UP. Some roads are longer than others, but it’s always worth it if you love it. There is no running to the top my friends.
Do everything in your power to achieve confidence and you will not be stopped.
